Electrical-Mechanical Field Technician

This position will be part of the Customer (Technical) Support team and will be important to provide better technical support for customers who require onsite, phone, or email assistance. Operio’s Field Technician will provide onsite installation, training and troubleshooting in customers’ facilities as well as in the Operio facilities.
The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of experience in a similar role and a formal qualification in electrical-mechanical or similar. They will be excellent at managing their own time and tasks. The individual we are looking for will be able to achieve independent goals while coordinating with the rest of the support team to ensure an overall great customer experience.
To be successful in the role, they will also need to communicate effectively with the rest of the team and our customers as well as be quick and keen to learn our products with a mentality of always striving to continually develop themselves and help others.
Job Responsibilities:
- Cross-train and service equipment from Operio’s brands, including Index, Stokes, CCS, Scheu and Kniss, Elizabeth, and LFA, ensuring consistent technical knowledge across product lines.
- Travel to customers’ sites to provide installation and training for the purchased Index, Stokes, CCS, Scheu and Kniss, Elizabeth, and LFA equipment.
- Install and commission machinery at customer sites, including initial setup, calibration, and testing to ensure proper operation according to manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct hands-on training for customers on machine operation, basic maintenance, safety protocols, and troubleshooting procedures to ensure long-term success with the equipment.
- Provide remote technical support through phone, email, or video calls to troubleshoot customer issues, diagnose problems, and recommend effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and software issues on a range of machinery including tablet presses, capsule fillers, mixers, and auxiliary equipment both onsite and in Operio's service facility.
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections to reduce downtime and ensure optimal machine performance.
- Document service calls and repairs thoroughly in internal systems, including customer communication, troubleshooting steps, parts used, and time logs to maintain a clear service history.
- Manage parts inventory and service tools, ensuring readiness for travel and on-site repairs by maintaining stock levels and tool condition.
- Coordinate service schedules with the support team and communicate directly with customers to provide timely and accurate service visits and updates.
- Support product testing and validation internally by running machines, identifying potential issues, and collaborating with the engineering or quality teams when necessary.
- Provide feedback to the product and engineering teams based on field experience to help improve equipment design, user experience, and documentation.
- Represent Operio professionally on-site and virtually, promoting customer satisfaction and reinforcing the company’s reputation for technical excellence and reliability.
- Assist in developing technical documentation including training manuals, troubleshooting guides, and internal service procedures.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years in a field service, technical support, or equipment maintenance role, preferably involving electromechanical machinery or production equipment in the pharmaceutical, food, or manufacturing sectors.
- A degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field is preferred. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
- Able and willing to travel up to 75% of the time across the country to provide on-site service, training, and support. Occasional international travel may be required. Eligibility to obtain a passport is mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical troubleshooting, and control systems (ex: PLCs, HMIs) with the ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.
- Proactive and analytical mindset with excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently under pressure in unfamiliar or changing environments.
Pay: $31.25- $38.50/hour based on your education, skills, and experience.
